What is a Hero?

A Hero, to me, is a man who is consumed with the longing to be close to God, to know God in spirit and in truth, and to honor God in all his ways.

A Hero gives up everything, without hesitation, at even the merest hint of God’s call to follow Him, just as the very first disciples dropped their nets when Jesus said, “Follow me”.

And when the various adventures end, appearing like failed experiments, sometimes appearing like God forgot or forsook him, this Hero bows his knee and kisses the hand of his Master, asking Him what next he can give in service and love to his Maker.

He sacrifices, serves, worries, prays, gives, and loves his family in every tangible way possible. He is no hypocrite. His actions speak louder than his words.

He values what our Most High God values rather than what this deceptive world values.

He models with his behavior how to treat the women in his life. A rarity in this dark age.

He vaunteth not himself. Or in today’s vernacular, he tooteth not his own horn; even when to do so would gain him privilege, advantage or advancement that he clearly deserves. This is humility in action. This is also Trust in God in practice.

And though it may be difficult for him to believe, and even more difficult to admit, he has allowed God to teach him how to admit when he is wrong. He knows what true apology means. Making things right with God and with others is more important to him than being right.

He has learned that the weakening and breaking of God is His greatest work in a man, and he humbles himself before the mighty hand of God.

He takes the hits, endures the changes, lets go of the control he most definitely would rather keep, all because of the first item on this list: because of his longing to be close to God, to know God in spirit and in truth, and to honor God in all his ways.

All these things, and more, my love, are what make you my Hero, and the man I most admire on this planet.

All my love, Amy Suzanne
